Balanced Body and Mind
Maybe you have an eating disorder and it’s started to really control your life, maybe you have tried all ways to get a grip of it and nothing seems to work.
Does this sound like you?
If I told you that your eating disorder was not about food but a need to control, that the need to control is somewhere hidden in your subconsciousness from an event or events in your past? Would you believe me?
Let me tell you a story about one of my clients’ journeys and how by using hypnotherapy her eating order of 10 years disappeared… For client confidentiality we will call her Polly…
Polly came to see me as she was suffering from bulimia, anxiety and verging on depression. She had tried all ways to try to get her purging under control, it had seriously started to impact her home, relationships and even her career.
Our first session was just a gentle chat, talking about her challenges and what outcome she was looking for. We talked about her childhood and put together a timeline of all the challenges that she had experienced growing up. Polly has had many major life changing events in her life.
The second session, we chatted further about the different events, looking at the timeline and when her eating disorder started. We did some soothing hypnotherapy to help increase her confidence and turn down her anxiety levels.
In between sessions, I gave Polly some homework, as therapy is always a two way street. One part of her homework was to meet up with her mum and talk about past events.
By the third session, it came to light that when Polly was 11 years old, she changed her behavior quite dramatically, went from being very loud and full of life, to becoming more nervous around people. She also started showing symptoms of OCD.
The fourth session using hypnotherapy we uncovered the event which caused Polly so much distress that it changed her behaviour. We had finally nailed the event, it was a situation where Polly was completely scared, alone and had no control over the outcome. Hence finding the trigger of her need to control.
With eating disorders, it’s all about control. You may not be able to control events around you, but one thing you can do is control what you eat. That’s how it starts….
My next session with Polly was a hypnotherapy to go into her subconscious and change the emotions and thoughts she had about the event, into more positive ones. So the memory was tweaked to no longer affect her in the same way.
Polly finally said goodbye to her eating disorder and now has her life back.
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool, to reset the mind to a more positive future
